Title
“Boots in Place” sets the tone of ‘Floki Sessions,’ as the first track on the upcoming collaboration between George Porter Jr. (The Meters), Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds), Robert Walter (Greyboy Allstars & Roger Waters), and Nikki Glaspie (The Nth Power). Recorded during a studio retreat at Floki Studios off the Troll Valley Peninsula in Northern Iceland, Glaspie brought in the astutely funky groove as a blank canvas for the other collaborators to layer their ideas over. Upon returning from Iceland, Roberts had invited vocalist Erica Falls (formerly of Galactic) to perform at Color Red’s 4th-year anniversary party at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver, CO and coupled her visit with collaborating on a song on the forthcoming record. Falls had originally thought she was composing a song for George to sing over and penned the lyric “My Name is George Porter Jr.” in the opening verse. After realizing that it was a misunderstanding and she would be singing the song in addition to penning the lyrics, the lyric was changed to “My Name is George Porter Jr.” The proclamation solidifies the steadfast nature of the lead track paying respects to George’s living legacy as one of the fieriest funkmesiters of all-time and bassist of GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award-winners, The Meters. The track was cemented with the addition of horn parts arranged by Eric “Benny” Bloom of Lettuce who laid down trumpet and brought in Nate Miller on saxophone.
